Behind Foxlynut

Two builders. One ancient seed. A modern brand.

Foxlynut is a retail and wholesale brand, not a manufacturer — we source, curate and quality-control. It was built on a simple belief — India deserves a snack brand as considered as its finest exports. We began where the finest makhana grows: the wetlands of Bihar.

The Founders

Obsessed with reimagining
Indian superfoods.

Gauhar — Founder & CEO

Founder & CEO

Gauhar

Gauhar grew up in Bihar, watching his grandmother roast makhana over a clay tandoor every winter. That sound — the crackle, the pop, the steam — became the founding memory of Foxlynut.

He spent four years in supply chain and operations, learning how to build things at scale. But scale without soul didn't interest him. He wanted to build something India could be proud of.

In 2023, he went home to Darbhanga to document Bihar's wetlands for a photo essay. Instead, he ended up documenting a broken supply chain — asking why makhana, this 3,000-year-old superfood grown in his own backyard, had no premium brand, and why farmers earned a fraction of what their crop was worth.

For the next 90 days, Gauhar lived out of a duffel bag across the makhana belt — Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Purnia. He visited 60+ farmer families, slept on their farms, learned their stories, and studied every roasting technique passed down through generations.

Today, his singular obsession is making the world fall in love with Indian snacking — and ensuring every rupee of premium value flows back to the farmer who grew it.

Outside Foxlynut, he's a landscape photographer and a quiet believer that India's next great consumer brand will come from Bihar's wetlands.

Bipin Kumar — Co-founder & COO

Co-founder & COO

Bipin Kumar

Bipin's family has been in agri-processing for four decades — rice milling, then pulses, now the world's finest makhana. He didn't choose food manufacturing; it chose him.

He spent eight years building production operations for agri-businesses across North India, learning which decisions protect quality and which quietly destroy it. He can tell whether a batch is perfect by smell alone — a skill learned from watching his father roast for 30 years, not from any SOP.

At Foxlynut, Bipin owns everything between the farm and the jar — sourcing, overseeing the roast at our partner facility, quality control, packaging and warehousing. He personally tastes every batch before it ships. No exceptions. No averaging.

He negotiates directly with farmer families — his rule is simple: no one leaves a Foxlynut deal earning less than 1.8× the local mandi rate. He built our five-gate quality-control system and our farmer partnerships from the ground up.

Roughly one week every month, he's in Bihar. Visiting ponds. Inspecting harvests. Running roast trials. Documenting farmer stories for our supply-chain transparency reports.

He's quiet by nature, allergic to hype, and the reason every jar of Foxlynut tastes exactly as it should. Every single time.

Our Partner Facility

Foxlynut is a retail and wholesale trading brand — we do not own or run a manufacturing or processing unit. We buy directly from farmers and partner with a family-owned makhana processing facility in Samastipur with 30+ years of expertise, which roasts and packs to our specification. Every batch runs through a five-step quality-control process we supervise before it reaches your door.

The Roasting Process

  1. Step 01

    Hand-pick

Sort and select premium lotus seeds.

  2. Step 02

Quality Control

Five gates between
the farm and your jar.

We reject roughly 18% of everything a farmer sends us. That's not a flex — it's the reason a Foxlynut jar tastes the same in Mumbai in July as it does in Delhi in December.

  1. 01

    Incoming Farmer Inspection

Every farmer lot is graded on size, colour, moisture, and pop-ratio before it enters our partner facility. Anything below Grade-A is rejected and returned — no exceptions, no averaging.

  2. 02

    Lab Screening

Independent lab tests for pesticide residue, aflatoxins, heavy metals, and microbial load. Certificates of analysis are archived per batch and linked to the jar's batch code.

  3. 03

    Partner Small-Batch Roasting

Our partner unit roasts in stainless-steel tandoors, 12 kg per batch, monitored by us for temperature curve and moisture. No industrial fryers, no palm oil, no shortcuts.

  4. 04

    Sensory & Crunch Panel

A trained panel of five tastes every batch on aroma, crunch, seasoning coverage, and after-taste. A batch has to score 8.5/10 or higher to move forward.

  5. 05

    Sealed & Batch-Coded

Nitrogen-flushed jars, tamper-evident seals, and a unique batch code printed on every unit so you can trace it back to the farm, the pond, and the roast date.

Farmer Partnership

Fair prices. Direct
from the pond.

Makhana grows in shallow ponds across North Bihar — a back-breaking, hand-harvested crop that has fed the world's most expensive nut markets for decades while its farmers earned pennies. We are rebuilding that equation.

Foxlynut buys directly from 200+ farmer families across 12 villages in Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur and Purnia. No aggregators, no commission agents, no mandi middlemen — the farmer's name and pond location sit inside our internal batch ledger.

We guarantee 1.8× the local mandi rate, payment within 7 days of delivery, and a fixed off-take contract each season so farmers can plan their year with certainty. In 2025 alone, we routed over ₹50 Lakhs directly to farmer bank accounts.

Beyond price, we fund the Foxlynut Farmer Scholarship — currently supporting 45 children of our partner farmers through school and vocational training. Because a fair supply chain isn't just about this harvest, it's about the next generation choosing to stay in it.
